Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
If we can get to the level we played yesterday consistently, stay injury free, maybe a new addition or two January, what’s to say?

West Ham are massive ⚒

Steady on, Iron.

The answer is no.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
No but if we add a striker early enough in the transfer window then we can have a real go at finishing top 4.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
Only if we can somehow sustain this level of consistency until January and then invest in 4 quality players in January to bolster the team for the run in. So basically no, it won't happen.

For me we need a quality left back to compete with Cresswell.

A powerful and energetic midfielder to come in and ease the pressure on Soucek.

Lingard to come in to compete with Bowen, Benrahma and Vlasic.

And most importantly another forward to take the workload off of Antonio so he can have more rest time,

But it ain't going to happen.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
No. Not enough depth in the squad.

Top 3 in any order will be Chelsea Liverpool and Man C. 4th is open for us Leicester Arsenal etc.

We'll finish 5th-8th

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
Let's see where we are this time in Jan.
December is full of a heck of lot of games.
If we are still in the top 4 and have bought in a left back and striker as cover. We need the left back to be able to deliver as well as Cresswell, that's gonna be hard.
Mr recruitment is going to earn his money .

If they all stay fit and focussed we could.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
If we buy in a couple of players in Jan then it's possible with some luck along the way. We will need another striker. But realistically I'd be happy with Europa League.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
No, unfortunately not. The miracle with the Leicester win which should be any smaller team’s template was more that all of the big clubs had a shit season at the same time. Second place got something like 71 points that season - so a team could have won the league on 72 points.

Can’t see that part happening again any time soon. Where there is a similarity with Leicester is that we’ve been really fortunate with injuries so far.

Top 4 would be brilliant though - still a stretch but more likely this season after the great start.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
I suspect we are decent middle-distance runners in a marathon.

Without reinforcements in January, I think we will fade, and the early promise will be wasted. Which would be criminal of our board, but not unexpected.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
If we didn’t have any other distractions then maybe, otherwise we don’t really have the legs to last a season. We’ve done remarkably well so far but we’d need significant strengthening in Jan. Thinking Lingard and a striker at minimum

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
Why do so many of you lot keep banging on about Lingard?

He didn't want to come in the summer, wanted to go back home to Manchester...

Fuck him, he made his bed an all that...

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
It would be ridiculous if Moyes wasn't challenging for the title. What sportsman sets their sights on runner up? Really?

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
No we can’t.
You need far more depth than we have to be serious contenders. The injuries will come.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
Most bookies have us behind City, Chelsea & Liverpool, but ahead of Utd, Arsenal & Tottenham. That’s a first!

If we stay injury free who knows? Have we peaked yet as a side? Personally I think theirs more to come, Rice, Benrahama, Johnson, are all improving, we’ve yet to see the best of Soucek, he’s bound to start scoring soon.

I personally think the squad is decent apart from cover for Antonio, I think Bowen could do a job up top if called upon, but hopefully we can bring in some cover January. We’re solid as well, we’re an hard side to score against.

Theirs an argument smaller squads have more unity, some managers are spoilt for choice and have to constantly juggle the pack to keep the big stars happy, that’s not the case with us, we have a settled well balanced side and happy players with a winning mentality.

We shall see..

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
The chances of us finishing ahead of Chelsea, City AND Liverpool have to be nil but we can run them close and should we get a top four finish that would be some achievement.

If we could combine that with winning a cup that would be incredible. The amazing thing is that we all now think we can!!

I agree that this team can continue to improve. We have genuine strength in depth in most positions, especially defence.

The noises are that we may well add Lingard in January. If we can also get a decent striker as back up / alternative to Antonio then there is no reason why we can't continue with the current form.

I don't think it's unrealistic to think that if we qualify for CL and he's offered a decent contract then Rice could commit to a few more years... no exaggeration to say that the next few months could be pivotal to our future.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
There may be good reasons for not wanting to sign Lingard, but punishing him for wanting to go back to Man U is a bloody silly one.

"Cutting your nose off to spite your face" could have been invented for it.

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
The best we could hope for is 4th, our squad isn't big enough or good enough to finish above City, Chelsea or Liverpool. Outside those top 3 its Man Utd, Everton, Spurs, Arsenal and us

Re: Can we (are we) challenge for the title?
At the start of the season I thought the top four places were pretty much tied up between Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Man United have had a stinker of a first quarter to the season and dropped right back. For us to have any chance of winning the title we need to play out of our skins for the rest of the season plus all three of the remaining contenders to have a similar run to what Man United are enduring.

Based on the way we took on Liverpool yesterday I can see a few clubs replicating our approach and being successful against them.

Man City and Chelsea just have too much in their squads though. Hope Moyes can exceed expectations yet again, but if offered fourth right now I'd more than happily take it.
